WATCH: Stars in the House, Broadway legends perform in daily live streamed concerts
While the curtains may be closed on Broadway, theater artists have not stopped performing not just to entertain audiences but also to support the more vulnerable members of the arts community. Stars in the House, created by SiriusXM host Seth Rudetsky and his husband, producer James Wesley, is one of these initiatives. This is a series of daily live-streamed concerts for the benefit of The Actors Fund.
Two shows air daily at 2 PM ET and 8 PM ET on The Actors Fund YouTube Channel. Each show is described as a combination of music, community, and education, the last part featuring consultations with CBS Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook. The stars perform their musical numbers remotely from their homes and have conversations with Seth and James in between each song.
Viewers can interact with the guests in real time as well as donate to the charity. According to their website, Stars in the House was able to raise over $ 50,000 in the first four days of airing. The proceeds will support the Actors Fund and its services such as emergency financial assistance, affordable housing, health care and insurance counseling, senior care, and more for all members of the arts community.
The series features an all-star cast of Broadway talent such as Idina Menzel, Matt Bomer, Sara Bareilles, Grant Gustin, Jason Alexander, Kristen Chenoweth as well as couples confined together like Audra McDonald and Will Swenson, Frozen composers Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, writers Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond, and more to be announced.
Stars in the House will stream daily until Broadway re-opens.
This week features performances from Sierra Boggess, Ramin Karimloo, Laura Benanti, Jeremy Jordan, Raul Esparza, Tituss Burgess, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Lea Salonga, and many more.
