The film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical, In the Heights, will be available to stream this month!
In the Heights explores the lives of the characters residing in the New York City Latino neighborhood of Washington Heights. At the center of the film, bodega owner, Usnavi, has mixed feelings about closing his business and returning to his home country, the Dominican Republic, after inheriting his abuela’s fortune. The Broadway musical won the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Original Score, Best Choreography, and Best Orchestrations.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, with a script by Quiara Alegría Hudes, it stars Anthony Ramos as Usnavi, Corey Hawkins as Benny, Leslie Grace as Nina Rosario, Melissa Barrera as Vanessa, Olga Merediz as Abuela Claudia, Daphne Rubin-Vega as Daniela, Stephanie Beatriz as Carla, Dascha Polanco as Cuca, Gregory Diaz IV as Sonny, Marc Anthony as Sonny’s father, Jimmy Smits as Kevin Rosario, and Noah Catala as Graffiti Pete, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Piraguero.
