FIRST LOOK: Tanghalang Pilipino’s “Aurelio Sedisyoso”
Tanghalang Pilipino is back with a musical. Fresh from the success of Mabining Mandirigma comes a sequel: another historical musical! This time, it’s a rock sarswela featuring playwright Aurelio Tolentino.
Aurelio Sedisyoso is set from 1902 through 1915; during the little-known third phase of the revolution until Tolentino’s final years. A well-known personality during the time, the musical “investigates and analyses” this period in Philippine history from Tolentino’s point of view– a man that the Americans feared.
Directed by Chris Millado, with books and lyrics by Dr. Nicanor Tiongson with music by Joed Balsamo. Francis de Veyra of Radioactive Sago Project will join the production as Musical Arranger. Other members of the artistic staff include Denisa Reyes (Choreography), Toym Imao (Set Design), Katsch Catoy (Lighting Design), James Reyes (Costume Designer), GA Fallarme (Projection Designer), and TJ Ramos (Sound Design).
The show stars David Ezra as the protagonist Aurelio Tolentino, celebrity Baron Geisler (in his theater debut) as Tikbalang, as well as players from Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company.
Running from September 1 to 17 at the very theater named after the subject of the musical (Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino or CCP Little Theater), this show opens the company’s 31st season. You can purchase tickets to the show here.
