Vanessa Hudgens, Alexandra Shipp Join “Tick, Tick… Boom!” Netflix Adaptation
Deadline reports that Vanessa Hudgens, Alexandra Shipp, and Robin de Jesus have been cast in the “Tick, Tick… Boom!” Netflix Adaptation. They join the previously reported Andrew Garfield who stars as the aspiring composer Jon.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, who starred in the 2014 Off-Broadway production opposite Leslie Odom, Jr. and Karen Olivo, is directing the adaptation as his feature directorial debut. Steven Levenson is writing the screen adaptation.
Shipp, who is famous for playing Storm in the X-Men franchise, is playing Jon’s girlfriend Susan. Hudgens was last seen on Broadway playing the titular role in “Gigi” in 2015. She also played Rizzo in Fox’s “Grease: Live” in 2016 and as Maureen Johnson in Fox’s “Rent: Live” in 2019. She is also famous for playing Gabriella Montez in the High School Musical franchise.
De Jesus was last seen on Broadway as Emory in “The Boys in the Band,” where he received his third Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play. He was previously nominated for his role as Sonny in the 2008 Broadway production of “In the Heights”, where he played opposite Miranda as Usnavi, and for his role as Jacob in the 2010 Broadway revival of “La Cage Aux Folles.”
“Tick, Tick… Boom!” is an autobiographical Off-Broadway musical written by Jonathan Larson. Set in 1990, the story follows Jon, an aspiring composer in New York City who questions his life choices on the eve of his thirtieth birthday.
