‘The Queen’s Gambit’ Broadway Musical in the Works
Netflix’s hit miniseries “The Queen’s Gambit” is set to be adapted for the stage as a major Broadway musical.
Entertainment Company Level Forward has acquired the theatrical stage rights to Walter Tevis’ same-name novel “The Queen’s Gambit”. The settlement happened on behalf of the Tevis Family Trust by Susan Schulman of the Susan Schulman Literary Agency, New York and, Rachel Gould on behalf of Level Forward.
“Told through a brave and fresh point of view, audiences are already sharing in the friendship and fortitude of the story’s inspiring women who energize and sustain Beth Harmon’s journey and ultimate triumph. The story is a siren call amidst our contemporary struggles for gender and racial equity, and we’re looking forward to moving the project forward.” says producer Julia Dunetz.
The 1983 novel which is set in the 1950s, follows the narrative of orphan chess prodigy Beth Harmon to dominate the patriarchal world of chess to becoming the world’s greatest chess player as she struggles to overcome her past demons.
The Queen’s Gambit, starring Anya Taylor-Joy received two Golden Globe Awards, two Critics’ Choice Awards, and was Netflix’s most-watched scripted miniseries with 62 million viewers in its first month.
