“The Prince of Egypt” will Open on the West End in 2020
Dreamworks’ 1998 animated feature “The Prince of Egypt” is becoming a stage musical, set to open on the West End at the Dominion Theatre in February 2020. It will officially premiere on February 25, running for a limited 32-week engagement.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the musical will feature 5 songs from the film written by Stephen Schwartz, including the Academy Award-winning song “When You Believe”, popularized by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. It will also include 10 new songs also written by Schwartz. The book is written by Philip LeZebnik, with choreography by Sean Cheesman and direction by Scott Schwartz.
The show will be produced by DreamWorks Theatricals, Michael McCabe, and Neil Laidlaw. Tickets will be available starting on June 3, 2019. Casting has yet to be announced.
The animated feature is an adaptation of the Book of Exodus following the life of Moses, from being a prince of Egypt to being the man who led the children of Israel out of Egypt. Actors who provided the voices for the film includes Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, Danny Glover, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren, Steve Martin, and Martin Short.
