An exceptional line-up of theater stars will be celebrating the birthday of legendary Broadway composer, Stephen Sondheim, in a special concert to be streamed on April 26 at 8PM ET (April 27, 8AM Philippine time). The show will be called “Take Me to the World: A Sondheim 90th Birthday Celebration” and will also coincide with the 50th Broadway anniversary of Sondheim’s musical, Company.

The show will be hosted by Raúl Esparza and will feature unforgettable songs from Sondheim’s repertoire performed by artists who also made names for themselves in his musicals, including Meryl Streep, Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone, Mandy Patinkin, Audra McDonald, Christine Baranski, Donna Murphy, Kristin Chenoweth, Sutton Foster, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Kelli O’Hara, Aaron Tveit, Maria Friedman, Katrina Lenk, Michael Cerveris, Brandon Uranowitz, Elizabeth Stanley, Chip Zien, Alexander Gemignani, Iain Armitage, Stephen Schwartz and, from the cast of Pacific Overtures at Classic Stage Company, Ann Harada, Austin Ku, Kelvin Moon Loh and Thom Sesma.

More than a once-in-a-lifetime event, this concert will also be for the benefit of ASTEP (Artists Striving to End Poverty), an organization conceived by the event’s musical director, Mary-Mitchell Campbell, and Juilliard students to transform the lives of youth through the arts. As described on their website, ASTEP “connects performing and visual artists with youth from underserved communities in the U.S. and around the world to awaken their imaginations, foster critical thinking, and help them break the cycle of poverty.”

The concert will be available for free on Broadway.com and on the Broadway.com YouTube channel.
