Sondheim Musical “Company” Full Cast Announced
Upstart Productions has just revealed the cast for Stephen Sondheim’s “Company.”
Written by Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) and George Furth (book), “Company” revolves around a bachelor named Bobby, a single man unable to commit fully to a steady relationship or marriage. The musical explores his relationships through a series of short vignettes, breaking the traditional mould of a book musical. The musical first opened on Broadway in 1970, where it won 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical.
The cast stars OJ Mariano as Bobby. Joining him are Sweet Plantado as Sarah, Upstart Productions’ Artistic Director Joel Trinidad as Harry, Nicky Triviño as Susan, Ariel Reonal as Peter, Bianca Lopez as Jenny, Chino Veguillas as David, Cathy Azanza-Dy as Amy, James Uy as Paul, Caisa Borromeo as Marta, Jill Peña as Kathy, Maronne Cruz as April, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo as Joanne, and Michael Williams as Larry.
Prior to this, the musical was also staged by Repertory Philippines as part of its 55th season in 1997 starring Cocoy Laurel as Bobby. Lauchengco-Yulo is the only one returning from that run, reprising her role as Joanne.
“Company” will be directed by Topper Fabregas, with musical direction by Rony Fortich, choreography by Nancy Crowe, costume and set design by Joey Mendoza, lighting design by Meliton Roxas, and sound design by Jethro Joaquin. It will be running from September 13-22 at the Maybank Performing Arts Center. For inquiries, contact Upstart Productions at 09178116156 or upstartproductionsinc@gmail.com.
