“Little Mermaid” Live-Action Film Finds its Principal Cast
“The Little Mermaid” live-action remake has found its principal cast members. As previously reported, Halle Bailey has been tapped to play the lead role of Ariel. Joining her are Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Javier Bardem as King Triton, with Awkwafina and Daveed Diggs voicing the roles of Scuttle and Sebastian respectively.
Today, it has been reported that the role of Prince Eric has officially been given to Jonah Hauer-King, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hauer-King was recently seen in the film A Dog’s Way Home and the TV mini-series Little Women.
The film will feature songs from the 1989 animated feature written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, and new songs by Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It will be directed by Rob Marshall and produced by Marshall, Miranda, John DeLuca, and Marc Platt. The script is written by David Magee.
US TV Network ABC most recently aired a live telecast of The Little Mermaid Live starring Auli’i Cravalho as Ariel. The live concert weaved together Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s songs from the original 1989 animated Disney movie, as well as songs from the Broadway production, where Glenn Slater also served as lyricist.
