‘Heathers the Musical’ West End Production Casts Joaquin Pedro Valdes

Joaquin Pedro Valdes, who was last seen on the local stage as Mr. Wormwood in Matilda the MusicalSpike in Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spikeand Chinito in Ako si Josephine, is making his West End debut as Ram in the West End return of Heathers the Musical.

Valdes’ most recent stage roles include playing the Understudy of Thuy in the UK/International Tour of Miss Saigonand the cover for Lun Tha in the International Tour of The King and I. 

When we asked him how he feels about making his West End debut with this production, “It’s bonkers! After the year that we’ve had as an industry, booking this show and to be amongst an incredible company of talent and creatives is really like winning the lottery,” he shares. “I always dreamed about being on the West End but none of those dreams could match how amazing this all is.”

WhatsOnStage reports that Heathers the Musical is returning to the West End next month for a limited 12-week run at Theatre Royal Haymarket. It previously ran at the West End in 2018 starring Carrie Hope Fletcher as Veronica Sawyer and Jamie Muscato as J.D.

The 2021 cast stars Christina Bennington as Veronica Sawyer, Jordan Luke Gage as J.D., Jodie Steele as Heather Chandler, Bobbie Little as Heather Duke, and Frances Mayli McCann as Heather McNamara. Joining Valdes in the supporting cast are Lauren Ward, Madison Swan, Simon Bailey, and Steven Serlin.

Heathers the Musical is based on the 1989 black comedy film of the same name starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, which deals with the subject of suicide, bullying, and school violence. It is written by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe (book, music, and lyrics), with choreography and associate direction by Gary Lloyd, designs by David Shields, sound by Dan Samson, lighting by Ben Cracknell, and music supervision by Gary Hickeson. It is directed by Andy Fickman.
