Wicked Movie Flies High and Defies Gravity in December 2019

Good news! (Talk of the movies) is not dead!

The screen version of one of the most successful Broadway musicals, Wicked, has finally been given a release date. The film, under Universal Pictures, is scheduled to be in movie theaters on December 20, 2019, reports NYTimes.

The movie will be directed by Stephen Daldry, who for his part has been focused on bringing the musical to the big screen, was reported to appear ready to make the movie for release this year. Until now, we have not heard of anything more definitive than this.

Rejoice and keep calm, Ozians.

Stephen Schwartz will once more be collaborating with Winnie Holzman (writer of the book for “Wicked”) for the film’s script.

According to Broadway.com, Schwartz also revealed during the San Diego Comic-con that the film will contain at least three new numbers, and that he is planning to incorporate at least one song cut from the Original Broadway to the film version.

And if like us, you are interested to know who the leads will be, we will all have to wait for further announcements.

In the meantime, shall we all play a game of casting? Tell us your dream cast for the film adaptation!

  1. I really think idina and kristin are the best, but others say they’re too old already 🙁

  2. Anna Camp as Glinda… and a really good director who won’t screw it up like Disney screwed us over with Into the Woods.

  3. Laura Bell Bundy or Annaleigh Ashford for Glinda and Lea Michelle for Elphie! I’ve never seen anyone who’s actually so perfect for the role.

Omg. They should give the role of Elphaba to Lea Michele!! She was born to play the part. She proved herself already and she’s the best choice for Elphie. Kristen Bell or Anna Camp for Glinda and maybe Anna Kendrick for Nessa? As long as Elphie goes to Lea Michele I’m good.

Nah.. Her voice is not powerful and commanding enough to be Elphaba..

Hmm. I beg to disagree. Haha. Watch her rendition of Popular and Defying Gravity. She can do it in her sleep. Plus, with the right emotions and intensity, she can look and sound like Idina as well! (since they look sooo alike and sometimes, they sound similar) <3 <3

Plus, Jeremy Jordan or Aaron Tveit as Fiyero! 🙂 <3
