About the Film

The film is set in pre-WWII Intramuros and tells the story of unmarried sisters Candida and Paula Marasigan. They are the daughters of high-profile painter Don Lorenzo Marasigan, who has unfortunately experienced an artistic drought. The movie is based on the 1952 3-act play written by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin entitled ‘A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino’.

In 1997, Musical Theater Philippines (now Culturtain Musicat Productions Inc.), a company headed by Celeste Legaspi and Girlie Rodis, staged a musical version of the play entitled ‘Larawan’ at the CCP. The libretto was written by National Artist for Theater Rolando Tinio and the music was written by renowned composer Ryan Cayabyab. Broadway and Off-Broadway Set Designer, and Filipino theater director Loy Arcenas has joined the creative team to direct the film.

Cast

The cast is led by West End and Filipino theater veteran Joanna Ampil and multi-awarded pop icon, theater actress, and TV host Rachel Alejandro, who play Candida and Paula Marasigan respectively. They are joined by other renowned theater stalwarts– Sandino Martin, Cris Villonco, Aicelle Santos, Nonie Buencamino, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Celeste Legaspi, Dulce, Bernardo Bernardo, Jojit Lorenzo, and Noel Trinidad.

The film will be in cinemas on September 2017.
