#Popepular from Philippine Stagers Foundation on Facebook

As a special lenten offering, the Filipino musical #Popepular is now streaming.

The musical was staged in 2015 by the Philippine Stagers Foundation showing a ‘what if’ scenario of a Filipino Pope Francis and his encounters with daily modern heroes.

The musical follows the life of Jorge Mario Bergoglio or Pope Francis starting from his pre-papal life until his appointment as Pope. It also centers on five individuals considered as modern heroes and their interactions with the Filipino Pope Francis to answer the question “Paano kung Pinoy si Kiko?”

The five individuals featured in the musical are ‘heartist’ Joey Velasco, the late painter of “Hapag ng pag-asa”,  Kristel Mae Padasas, a Catholic Relief Services volunteer who died in an accident during Pope Francis’ visit to Tacloban City, Dr. Edgardo Gomez, 2014 National Scientist who fought for the country’s marine resources, Ronald Gadayan, a kind-hearted janitor in NAIA who returned a bag containing 1.8 million pesos in cash and jewelry, and Police Officer 1 Mark Lory Clemencio, one of the 44 Special Action Force who died during the Mamasapano incident in 2015.

Directed by Vincent Tañada, who also wrote the show with co-writer Reverend Fr. Gregorio Bañaga. Music is by Pipo Cifra, and starring JV Cruz, Chin Ortega, Kenneth Sadsad, Patrick Libao, Cindy Liper, and Vincent Tañada.

The show is only available until this Sunday. Watch it here:
