Now Streaming: ‘Macbeth’ Starring Patrick Stewart

Rupert Goold’s Macbeth starring Patrick Stewart in the titular role and Kate Fleetwood as Lady Macbeth is now streaming online.

The production ran in the West End in December 2007 and then on Broadway in 2008. It was then filmed for television at the end of 2009 and was released on BBC Four and then on PBS.

Other cast members include Michael Feast (MacDuff), Polly Frame, Sophie Hunter, and Niamh McGrady (Three Witches), Scott Handy (Malcolm), Martin Turner (Banquo), and Paul Shelley (Duncan).

This marks the third installment of The Shows Must Go On‘s Shakespeare season. It is preceded by the one-man show Being Shakespeare starring Simon Callow and Richard II starring Fiona Shaw. All productions part of the Shakespeare line-up will be available online for 7 days.

The Shows Must Go On has been streaming musicals and concerts for free as early as April this year, including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ SuperstarThe Phantom of the Opera, Love Never DiesCatsThe War of the Worlds, and The Wind in the Willows, among many others. While theaters have remained closed due to the pandemic, audiences are encouraged to donate to different arts causes.
