The Broadway proshot of Diana: The Musical is now streaming on Netflix, two months ahead of its Broadway debut.
The production was shot in 2020 with COVID-19 safety protocols in place and no audience, featuring the original Broadway cast led by Jeanna de Waal in the titular role, Roe Hartrampf as Prince Charles, Erin Davie as Camilla Parker Bowles, and Judy Kaye as Queen Elizabeth. It is directed by Christopher Ashley, with book and lyrics by Joe Dipietro, music and lyrics by David Bryan, music supervision and arrangement by Ian Eisendrath, and choreography by Kelly Devine.
Diana the Musical follows the story of Diana Spencer, a 19-year old woman who was engaged to a prince she barely knew. Diana is thrust onto the world stage and, overnight, becomes the most famous woman in the world. As she struggles to navigate her way within the rigid structure of the royal family, Princess Diana finds herself trapped in a loveless marriage, eventually finding her voice by devoting herself to those in need. Forced to endure a media spotlight brighter than the world has ever known, Princess Diana defies all expectations to emerge as her own woman and create a legacy that will endure forever.
