‘Joseph the Dreamer’ to Return to the Stage in 2022
Trumpets Inc’s Joseph the Dreamer will be returning to the stage in the fourth quarter of 2022!
The musical was the last production in Manila that had a full run before shows were forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It ran from February 21 to March 8, 2020 at the Maybank Performing Arts Theater. Its intended performances in Cebu last May 2020 had to be halted due to the pandemic.
Written by Freddie Santos, based on Cam Floria’s cantata entitled Dreamer: What Really Happened to Joseph, the production is based on the biblical story of Joseph, the 11th son of Jacob. The most recent production is a re-imagined version directed by Paolo Valenciano, featuring updated musical arrangements by musical director Myke Salomon as well as an updated script.
First staged in Cebu in 1989, Joseph the Dreamer has had many runs over the past 30 years. The actors who have played the titular roles in the past include Audie Gemora, Gary Valenciano, Franco Laurel, and Alvin de la Peña. Sam Concepcion, who alternated with Neo Rivera as Joseph for the 2020 version, will return to reprise their role in 2022.
Other new and returning cast members, as well as exact dates and details on the venue have yet to be announced. You can watch Sam Concepcion as well as the 2020 cast of Joseph the Dreamer perform excerpts from the show below.
