‘Frozen’ Stage Musical Coming 2023 to Singapore
Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions and Presented by Base Entertainment Asia, Disney hit, Frozen, is coming to the region! A production of the stage musical is set to tour next year, starting with its first and only stop in South East Asia: Singapore.
Nominated for 3 Tony Awards in 2018 including Best Musical, as well as 4 Laurence Olivier Awards nominations, Frozen is the fairytale classic tale of Anna, who must find her Snow Queen sister, Elsa, to help reverse the icy winter that has descended upon their home kingdom of Arendelle.

“When you see this production, it’s everything you will want to see.” said Resident Director, Benjamin Osborne. “It’s bigger than Broadway and London. It’s massive.” The size and scale of the show that’s coming are measured by 26 containers of props, sets, and costumes, as well as a hundred or so cast and crew flying out to mount it. They’ve also cast six kids from Singapore to play young Anna and young Elsa for the run.
According to Osborne, the show will not lack that patent Disney magic: “The detail in this show is incredible.” Along with the iconic ice dress reportedly made out of 14,000 crystals and beads, there are 440 costumes featured on the show, including 120 pairs of handmaid shoes and 90 wigs made out of human hair. There’s more than five tons of scenery, twenty tons of animation, and plenty of Hidden Mickey’s and easter eggs throughout the set.
The production will also feature puppetry such as bringing the character of Olaf to the stage, played by Matt Lee in this production. “There’s a lot of pressure that comes with playing iconic characters that the world has fallen in love with,” shares Lee about the challenge of playing the fan-favorite character. “Not only do I have to tell the story through the puppet, I have to tell the story as myself as well as through the puppet. It’s quite a challenge.”

In the role of Elsa is Jemma Rix who previously performed for Manila audiences as Elphaba in a 2014 production of Wicked. About bringing characters to life on stage, she shares: “I think [the show] has done really well to keep [the story] in the true factor of a human experience when it originally came from an animation film.”
As for what audiences–both children and adults–can expect from the experience? Osborne says, “Disney is multigeneration. The humor in this show is so adult–people have been saying that it’s a kid show, but it’s really not. It’s fantastic. It’s so funny. I think they’ll also find something really gorgeous about it. We’ve been really cautious of presenting something that everyone can enjoy.”

The show will run from February 5 to March 5, 2023 at the Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands. It is approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, with a 20-minute intermission. Tickets start at SGD 108. You can get tickets via frozenthemusical.sg
