A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams’ most well-known play about the tragic life of Blanche DuBois will be the next show to be streamed as part of the UK National Theatre at Home initiative.

The play tells the story of a Southern Belle named Blanche DuBois who falls on hard times and seeks solace with her sister, Stella, but clashes with Stella’s brutal husband, Stanley Kowalski. As the story progresses, tensions rise among the three troubled characters. Blanche struggles and suffers more losses until she eventually breaks down.

The critically-acclaimed 2014 production was filmed on stage at the Young Vic for National Theatre Live and stars Gillian Anderson (All About Eve, The X-Files, Sex Education) as Blanche DuBois, Vanessa Kirby (The Crown, Mission Impossible) as Stella Kowalski, and Ben Foster (Lone Survivor, Kill Your Darlings) as Stanley Kowalski. The production was nominated for the two Olivier Awards, for Best Revival of a Play and for Best Actress (Anderson.)

The stream will be available on the National Theatre’s Youtube Channel from May 21 at 7pm (London time) to May 28.

This play will be the latest in the lineup of National Theatre at Home productions, following Barber Shop Chronicles, Antony and Cleopatra, Frankenstein, Twelfth Night, Jane Eyre, Treasure Island, and One Man, Two Guvnors.
