We’ve officially approached the middle of 2019! Fortunately, some of Manila’s most formidable theater companies are conducting mid-year theater workshops, from basic acting to masterclasses.

Here are 4 theater workshops you can join from June to August.

1. REP’s Acting Masterclass for Adults

REP Acting Masterclass

REP’s advanced workshop is ideal for professional theater actors as well as aspiring ones with previous experience. Learn more about the craft with REP’s veteran actor Jeremy Domingo.

Interested participants must be/have:
1. Aged 17 and up
2. Be proficient in English
3. Experience with at least two productions in a professional or university-based theater company
4. Prepare one Classical Monologue or Sonnet, plus one Contemporary Monologue (either Comedy or Drama)
5. Bring one 2×2 picture and theater resume.

When and where: The workshop will be held at the REP Office, Ecoville Executive Townhomes, Makati until July 26.

Tuition: P12,000

2. Actors’ Lab with Caisa Borromeo

Pineapple Lab presents “The Actors’ Lab” with Caisa Borromeo, a series of workshops designed to train aspiring stage professionals and enthusiasts alike in musical theatre performance.

Part of Pineapple Lab’s ArtsEd. Programming, The Actors’ Lab offers fun and challenging classes built around the supportive and creative environment of Pineapple Lab, enabling emerging performers to find their voices, build their confidence, and develop the fundamentals of acting and singing needed on and off the stage.

Covering textual analysis, song interpretation, character study, and vocal technique, participants can expect to perform scene work, cold readings, monologues, various physical games and improv, culminating in a devised work to be performed on the Pineapple Lab stage.

Featuring sessions with guest teaching artists from the professional industry as well as access to Pineapple Lab’s current slate of programs, the goal of the Actors’ Lab is to provide students with professional training to help them discover and develop their abilities to jumpstart their career and pursue their passion in the theater arts.

“The Actors’ Lab” with Caisa Borromeo is open to all students 18 years and older. No previous training or experience is required. The class is limited to 15 participants only.

Caisa Borromeo holds a bachelor’s degree in Voice Performance and is a member of the Drama Club faculty in the Chinese International School. She has starred in various musicals and plays for different theatre companies.

July 8, 9, 11 (7 to 10PM)

3. Atlantis Musical Theater Workshop 2019 Mid-year Classes

Atlantis Workshop

Now on its third year, the Atlantis Musical Theater Workshops for Kids (7–12) and Teens (13–18) returns! This month-long workshop will take you through the fundamentals of acting, singing, and dancing for musical theater. All classes will be spearheaded by Atlantis veterans Jillian Ita-as, Teetin Villanueva, and Gerhard Krysstopher, providing you the experience of learning from and working with the country’s top theater professionals.

When and where: The workshop will be held from July 1-28 at M Studio Magallanes.

4. PETA Workshop Weekends

PETA is holding Theater Workshop Weekends, from August 10 to October 6 at the PETA Theater Center.

Beginners can join the Theater Arts Workshop. It teaches the fundamental knowledge, skills, and attitudes in theater acting, dramatic improvisation, and theater production craft. Open to anyone and everyone interested to explore their artistic side.

When and Where: August 10, 17, 24, 31, September 7, 14, 21, 22, 28, 29, October 5, 6 (Showcase); Time Slots 9am-3pm or 4pm-10pm at the PETA Theater Center
Tuition: P12,000

Participants who want to go to the next level can join the Basic Acting Workshop. Learn the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes in becoming stage actors and enhance your acting tools by exploring different acting styles and principles. This course is for performers who want to level up their onstage skills and experience.

When and Where: August 10, 17, 24, 31, September 7, 14, 21, 22, 28, 29, October 5, 6 (Showcase); Time Slots 9am-3pm at the PETA Theater Center
Tuition: P12,000

Aspiring singers can join the Creative Musical Theater Workshop. It’s specially designed for stage performers who are inclined to music.  It is a course full of musical explorations, with the elements of musical performance and forms of musical theater.

When and Where: August 10, 17, 24, 31, September 7, 14, 21, 22, 28, 29, October 5, 6 (Showcase); Time Slots 4pm-10pm at the PETA Theater Center
