Universal Pictures has just announced that sing-along screenings of Wicked will be coming to Philippine cinemas on January 8! The screenings will feature on-screen lyrics, allowing fans to sing along to their hearts’ content without anyone trying to stop them.

Wicked is the highly anticipated adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, which is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The story reimagines the world of Oz, focusing on the untold story of Elphaba, the misunderstood green-skinned girl who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and her unlikely friendship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.

Directed by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights), the film stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Ethan Slater as Boq, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard.

This first installment of Wicked focuses on the entire first act of the musical, drawing audiences into the characters’ formative years—from their initial rivalry at Shiz University to their unexpected friendship and the events that lead Elphaba to “defy gravity.”

It has also been announced that the official title of the sequel, which theater fans know as the second act of the stage production, will be Wicked: For Good, set for release in cinemas worldwide in November 2025.
