‘Wicked’ Movie Announces PH Cinema Release Date
Deadline reports that Wicked, which was originally set to be released together with Moana 2 on November 27 in US cinemas, will now be released five days earlier on November 22.
The good news is that, according to Facebook post by Universal Pictures PH, the Philippines will have an even earlier release date, now on November 20, two days earlier than the release in US cinemas. The sequel is slated for a November 26, 2025 release in the US.
Wicked features Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Ethan Slater as Boq, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard.
The cast also includes Pfannee and ShenShen, two conniving compatriots of Glinda played by Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James, and a new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Keala Settle.
Winnie Holzman, who wrote the book, and Stephen Schwartz, who composed the music and lyrics for the stage musical, have both returned to write the script. Schwartz has said that the film will also include two new original songs.
Wicked tells the untold story of the witches of Oz, primarily focusing on Elphaba, the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch. It explores themes of friendship, identity, and prejudice, offering a new perspective on the iconic characters and events of Oz.
