The Virgin Labfest’s (VLF) Ang Unang Regla ni John is now streaming on CCP’s YouTube channel!

Written by Em Mendez and directed by George de Jesus III, the play was first staged at the 2012 VLF and was revisited the following year. The one streaming is the revisited production, featuring Juliene Mendoza, Adrienne Vergara, Bobby Pimentel, George de Jesus III (standing in for Joshua Deocareza), and Paul Jake Paule.

The play is a coming-out story of a young boy brought up in a hyper-machismo family. John dreads growing hair as he reaches the age of puberty, but adores the hairless bodies of women displayed in posters in their barbershop. Upon waking up from a dream, he discovers the first spurts of hair in his privates.

Just like the other shows in CCP Online’s line-up, Ang Unang Regla ni John will only be available for one week. Other VLF plays that have also been streamed on the channel include Carlo Vergara’s Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady, Juan Miguel Severo’s Hintayan ng LangitAizel Cabilan’s PagsubliDustin Celestino’s Mga Eksena sa Buhay ng Kontrabida, Anthony Kim Vergara’s A Family Reunion, Rolin Migyuel Obina’s Ang Pag-uulyanin ni Olivia Mendoza, and Raymund Barcelon’s Ang Huling Hiling ni Darling.

This year’s VLF, dubbed VLF 2020 Kapit: Lab in the Time of Covid, will be going online from June 10 to 28.

CCP Online brings HD and archival recordings in theater, dance, visual arts, film, literary, and workshop events from CCP’s Cultural Content Digital Archives to audiences online.
