Ben Platt and Kaitlyn Dever, the stars of the upcoming film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen, join several other actors in a virtual reading of Natalie Margolin’s The Party Hop.

The rest of the cast includes Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart), Ayo Edebiri (Big Mouth), Ashley Park (Mean Girls), and Catherine Cohen (Seek Treatment) with Molly Gordon (Alice by Heart), Francesca Carpanini (All My Sons), Kathryn Gallagher (Jagged Little Pill), Olivia Puckett (Dear Evan Hansen), Max Sheldon (Monsterland), Noah Galvin (Dear Evan Hansen), Hannah Zipperman, Julian Silver, Allie Levitan, Sam Alper, Zoe Worth, Chloe Searcy, and Anna Romanoff.

The Party Hop takes place on a Saturday night three years into quarantine where three college sophomores, Ava (Feldstein), Emma (Edebiri), and Nancy (Cohen) bounce from virtual party to virtual party since this is the “new normal.” When Emma and Nancy discover that Ava has not yet had her first kiss, they insist that tonight must be the night. Though the circumstances may complicate things, they are determined to make a go of it anyway.

The reading is be directed by Josh Margolin with music by Kathryn Gallagher and David Thompson.

The Party Hop will be published in the forthcoming collection of short plays Technical Difficulties: Plays For Online Theatre by Dramatists Play Service. Watch below:

Though the production is free, the audience is encouraged to donate to YourMomCares (YMC), a charity founded by celebrity and influencer moms banding together for kids’ mental health. YMC is currently responding to the COVID-19 crisis. The charity has funded healthcare services, testing and support for families in the most vulnerable communities across the US, as well as tele-mental health services for adolescents and technology for virtual schooling.
