Tony Nominations 2025 Announced
The 78th Annual Tony Awards nominations were unveiled on May 1, 2025, celebrating a Broadway season that featured 42 productions—14 new musicals, 14 new plays, and 14 revivals. Leading the pack with 10 nominations each are Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her, and Maybe Happy Ending, all vying for Best Musical.
In the Best Play category, John Proctor Is the Villain and The Hills of California each garnered seven nominations.
Audra McDonald made history with her 11th Tony nomination for her performance in Gypsy, solidifying her status as the most-nominated performer in Tony history. Filipino-American designer Clint Ramos earned his seventh Tony nomination for Best Costume Design in a Musical for Maybe Happy Ending. Ramos, who previously won the Tony for Eclipsed, is also the co-founder and overall creative and artistic director of Theatre Group Asia.
The nominations were announced live from Sofitel New York by Tony Award winners Sarah Paulson and Wendell Pierce. A selection of categories was revealed live on CBS Mornings at 8:30 a.m. ET, with additional nominations announced immediately after at 9 a.m. ET on the Tony Awards’ official YouTube channel.
The awards ceremony will be hosted by Tony, Emmy, and Grammy winner Cynthia Erivo on Sunday, June 8, 2025 (8:00 – 11:00 PM ET/5:00 – 8:00 PM PT). The event will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed via Paramount+ and Pluto TV in the US.
