‘Shorts & Briefs’ Festival Unveils Writers and Directors for 2025 Run

‘Shorts & Briefs’ Festival Unveils Writers and Directors for 2025 Run

Eksena PH’s Shorts & Briefs (SNB), a theater festival that features only first time theater-makers and performers, returns for its 11th edition.

This year’s theme dives deep into adult territory — a spade called a spade (with supernatural flair), a sculptor falling hard for his Galatea, a steamy May-December quickie, talking body parts, coprophilia (Google that!), and an all-out war: Women vs Robots.

THE LINE-UP:

1. Ang Babae at ang Mangga

Written by
John Custer | Directed by Tads Obach-Acosta

John returns to SNB after writing Kasloy for SNB10: The Musical (2024). A Computer Science graduate from De La Salle University-Manila and member of the DLSU Harlequin Theatre Guild, he brings tech smarts to theatrical storytelling. Tads, a Manila-based Mindanaoan actor and product of the Integrated Performing Arts Guild, ventures into stage directing for the first time.

2. Josefino at ang Statwa

Written by Francis Panes | Directed by Ingrid Joyce

Francis is a 2nd-year Creative Writing major at DLSU-Manila and an active member of DLSU-HTG. Ingrid began her theater journey with UST’s Teatro Tomasino and returns to directing after a nine-year break — with renewed passion and vision.

3. The Red Hotel

Written by Aerial Madriaga (aka Miss A) | Directed by Rye Capulong

Aerial transitioned to corporate life after earning her Performing Arts degree from Bulacan State University. She previously worked as production staff for Eksena PH and SNB in 2022. Rye, an IT professional by day and improviser by heart, has performed in Singapore and Vietnam. SNB11 marks his directorial debut.

4. Reklamasyon Headquarters

Written by Lewor Sotis | Directed by Mark Norman Boquiren

Rowel, a 3rd-year Communication Arts student at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, was a 2024 scholar of Enlighten: The IdeaFirst Filmfest, where he trained under Jun Robles Lana. Mark, a UE-Caloocan ComArts graduate and Artistic Director of UE Drama Co., has been a fellow of prestigious writing workshops since 2014. SNB11 sees him stepping into the director’s chair.

5. Shit

Written by Jeremi Flores | Directed by Phi Palmos

Jeremi graduated cum laude from the Theater Arts program of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. A 2024 Virgin Labfest writing fellow, he currently develops his craft at Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika, at Anyo. Phi, a celebrated triple-threat (Mula sa Buwan, Delia D), brings his extensive experience and mentorship back to SNB.

6. Warla Arena

Written by Joe Louie A. Lavaro (aka Tanghalin G. Tapat) | Directed by Tom Navarro

Joe is pursuing a Doctorate in Performance Studies at UP Diliman and is a practitioner of Playback Theatre. Tom, a BA Communication graduate from Saint Louis University–Baguio and Tanghalang SLU alumnus, now works as a freelance video editor.

Shorts and Briefs will run for three weekends from September 20 to October 5 , with 2 PM & 7:30 PM shows every weekend at Café Shylo – Pasig (Showroom by Projects Unlimitd, Skyway Twin Towers Condominium). For announcement of ticket selling,  follow Eksena PH on Facebook and Instagram.
