Sara Bareilles to Star in ‘Waitress’
After it was announced last December that Waitress star Jessie Mueller will be playing her final performance as Jenna Hunterson come March 26, 2017, people have been speculating (certainly we have) that composer and lyricist Sara Bareilles herself will be taking on the lead role.
Bareilles finally dispelled rumors at her appearance at NBC’s Today Show, where she revealed that she will be taking on the role after Mueller’s final bow from March 31 to June 11, making it her official Broadway debut.
Waitress was nominated for Best Musical, Best Original Score (Sara Bareilles), Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical (Jessie Mueller), and Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical at last year’s Tony Awards. It was also nominated for Best Musical Theater Album at the recently concluded Grammy Awards.
Based on the 2007 movie of the same name, Waitress is a musical about Jenna Hunterson, a waitress stuck in an unhappy marriage with her husband Earl. The musical follows her on her journey to taking back her life and her independence.
