Samalamig Cold Readings returns for the final installment of its first season with their resident artist Phi Palmos on January 22, 2025, 9PM at The Brewman Coffee, Cubao Expo. Along with this announcement, submission for pieces to be selected in the show is now open until December 20, 2024.

Interested playwrights can submit their pieces to samalamigreadings@gmail.com with the subject: [Submission] Title Name- Genre until December 20, 2024, 11:59pm.

The piece (English, Filipino, Taglish, or with a mix of any Filipino language) should have a maximum of 3-4 characters only. 10-15 minutes will be allotted for the performance, including stage directions. The stories will not be judged on the quality, but will be reviewed under its Safe Spaces Policy: no depictions of discrimination based on gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical ability, appearance, neurodiversity, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, or religion; depictions of sexual assault, rape, or any action that simulates non-consent, or depictions of violence or bullying. Excerpts from original TV and movie scripts can also be submitted, and writers can submit more than one script to be reviewed.

The triannual Samalamig Cold Readings has two acts: the first act features the three fresh scripts that will be selected from the current call of submissions, while the second act features a short one-act play from professional playwrights such as Carlos Palanca Award Hall of Famer Guelan Luarca and Carlos Palanca Award winner Dustin Celestino.

Featured pieces in the previous Samalamig events included Tell Me Where You Want Me by Gerald Manuel, MOMOL (Make Out, Make Out with Love) by Aldrich Alcantara, Wala Na Namang Tubig by Andrew Clete, Need by Lia de Jesus, and Nang Dahil Sa’yo and Friend by Michael Lopez.

Tickets are P800 for Early Bird buyers (all purchases made until January 21) and P1,000 for Regular/Walk-in attendees, inclusive of a complimentary drink. Interested parties can scan the QR code or visit https://tinyurl.com/SamalamigColdReading to buy tickets.

Produced by Gelo Esperanzate and Carl Cuevas (PopQuizPH), Samalamig Cold Reading is a new theater space where aspiring and budding playwrights can submit fresh, WIP or never been performed scripts and have them cold read by willing audience members alongside the season’s resident artist.
