‘Samalamig Cold Readings’ Returns with Gab Pangilinan this May
After a successful debut season last year featuring Phi Palmos, Samalamig Cold Readings returns on May 14, 2025, with new scripts and a new featured artist: Gab Pangilinan.
Samalamig Cold Readings is a new theater space that aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for aspiring writers to explore and develop their scripts. It also offers theater fans and theatergoers a refreshing experience—the chance to read fresh scripts alongside a professional theater artist. By allowing playwrights to hear their work read aloud and inviting audiences to participate—whether as randomly selected readers or as engaged observers—each session becomes both a creative workshop and a unique theatrical encounter.
Following an overwhelming response to its open call for submissions, the three pieces selected to be read for this round are: Apat na Kaluluwa by Bea Nicole Abelinde, Maaga Pa Tayo Bukas by Ross Manicad, and Untop by Daniel Augusto.
Produced by Gelo Esperanzate and Carl Cuevas of PopQuizPH, the quarterly Samalamig Cold Readings event unfolds in two acts. The first features cold readings of the selected one-act plays, with audience members randomly chosen to read alongside the featured artist. The second act highlights a one-act play by a professional playwright, with past featured works from the likes of Carlos Palanca Hall of Famer Guelan Luarca and Palanca awardee Dustin Celestino.
The event will run on May 14, 2025, 9pm at Vault Speakeasy Bar (inside Tittos Latin BBQ and Brew Greenhills). Tickets are ₱800 for Early Bird (until May 13, 11:59 p.m.) and ₱1,000 for Regular/Walk-in, inclusive of a complimentary drink. To buy tickets, visit the group’s Google Form.
