Samalamig Cold Readings Returns with Featured Artist Gab Pangilinan on January 2026
Samalamig Cold Reading caps the second season of its three-part series with its third and final installment on January 28, 2026, 8 PM at Vault Speakeasy Bar Greenhills (inside Tittos Latin BBQ and Brew).
Featured Artist Gab Pangilinan returns as she completes her residency until a new Featured Guest Artist is revealed for the next cycle.
Along with the event announcement, the organizers have opened submissions for pieces to be considered for the upcoming session. Playwrights can submit their works until December 27, 2025 (Saturday), at 11:59 p.m. Interested writers can email their entries to samalamigreadings@gmail.com with the subject line:
[Submission] Title Name – Genre.
Scripts can be written in English, Filipino, Taglish, or any mix of Philippine languages. Submissions should feature 3–4 characters, run 10–15 minutes, and follow the full mechanics available at bit.ly/SamalamigColdReadings.
Now in its second year, Samalamig Cold Readings invites budding, emerging, and professional writers to submit fresh or work-in-progress scripts—whether written for the stage or for the visual medium. Selected pieces are performed live by audience readers alongside the Featured Artist, followed by a short talkback session that allows playwrights to receive technical feedback and audience insights.
The show’s second act features a short act-one play from playwrights such as Jobert Grey Landeza as well as Carlos Palanca winners Eljay Castro Deldoc, Dustin Celestino, and Hall of Famer Guelan Luarca.
In the Samalamig session held last September, the featured works included Libing Things by Rhain Alcoriza, In Loving Memory by Mae Malaya, and The Aswang by Randy Q. Villanueva. The second-act piece was The Proposal by Jobert Grey Landeza.
Tickets are priced at P800 for Early Bird buyers (until January 27) and P1,000 for regular or walk-in patrons, inclusive of a complimentary drink. Tickets may be purchased by visiting bit.ly/SamalamigColdReadings.
Started in 2024, Samalamig Cold Reading is an emerging theater space conceptualized and organized by Gelo Esperanzate and Carl Cuevas of PopQuizPH in hopes to encourage more Filipino playwrights to create more original works, especially Filipino plays.
