Samalamig Cold Readings is set to return for a new season on May 20, 2026, with theater artist Reb Atadero announced as its next guest reader. The announcement was made during the final event of the platform’s second season, which recently concluded with featured artist Gab Pangilinan.

Co-produced by Carl Cuevas and Gelo Esperanzate, Samalamig Cold Readings has continued to establish itself as a space for playwrights and audiences to engage with new theatrical works through live cold readings and post-reading discussions. Since its launch in 2024, the initiative has focused on presenting original scripts by aspiring, emerging, and professional Filipino playwrights, while encouraging open dialogue between creators and viewers.

Atadero shared his thoughts on joining the next season in a video message, saying, “I am honored to be the next guest for Samalamig Cold Readings. Join me on May 20, 2026 for a night of fun and creativity. There’s nothing like a live reading.”

Known for his work on the Philippine stage as well as for his viral educational TikTok series History You Should Know, Atadero has appeared in numerous productions across musicals and plays. His involvement continues Samalamig Cold Readings’ practice of collaborating with established theater artists for each season.

Each Samalamig Cold Readings session features selected scripts performed live by audience members alongside the featured artist. The readings are followed by a short talkback, where playwrights receive immediate responses, technical feedback, and audience insights on their work.

The program also includes a second segment featuring a short act-one play. Past seasons have showcased works by playwrights such as Jobert Grey Landeza, as well as Palanca Award winners Eljay Castro Deldoc, Dustin Celestino, and Hall of Famer Guelan Varela-Luarca.

Script submissions for the upcoming season are expected to open in the early second quarter of the year. Further details will be announced through PopQuizPH’s official Facebook and Instagram pages.

Conceived by Esperanzate and Cuevas, Samalamig Cold Readings is an emerging theater platform that aims to encourage the creation and development of original Filipino plays by providing a shared space for reading, discussion, and critical exchange.
