FIRST LOOK: ‘Sa Wakas’ Cast Performs Excerpts From Much-awaited Rerun
Sa Wakas is a critically acclaimed, homegrown musical based on the songs of one of the country’s most beloved rock bands, Sugarfree. Co-written by Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan and Mariane Abuan, with the music beautifully arranged by Ejay Yatco, Sa Wakas was one of the first to bring together the world of pop rock and theater in one groundbreaking musical. It easily gained a cult following during its limited run last April 2013 at the PETA Theater Center. The show now finds its new home at the Power Mac Center Spotlight beginning this January 12, 2017.
The show is created and produced by Charissa Pammit and is presented with the Manila Fringe Festival. Lighting design will be done by Miguel Panganiban, while Julian Vincent Cayabyab will design the set. Jodinand Aguillon will serve as the show’s costume designer and assistant director. Aguillon also helped Pammit rewrite some scenes for the rerun.

The Story
A bittersweet story set in contemporary Manila, Sa Wakas raises the timeless question of “why relationships fall apart?” What makes the show unique is its unconventional perspective, adopting an inverse chronology wherein the narrative begins at the end of the crushing breakup and works its agonizing way backwards to the relationship’s starry-eyed beginning.
The Cast
Reprising their roles from the original run are Vic Robinson, who plays leading man Topper, Caisa Borromeo who plays the intellectual Lexi, and Justine Peña, who plays the free-spirited Gabi. New members of the cast include Pepe Herrera, who alternates as Topper, Cara Barredo who alternates as Lexi, and Maronne Cruz who alternates as Gabbi. Abi Sulit and Hans Dimayuga come back as part of the ensemble, joined by new members Laui Guico and Moira Lozada.
Excerpt Performances
In this first performance, Vic Robinson and Cara Barredo perform the song “Prom” with ensemble members Hans Dimayuga, Moira Lozada, and Abi Sulit.
In this second performance, Vic Robinson sings “Ikaw Pala” with co-star Maronne Cruz.
This next performance features Vic Robinson and Caisa Borromeo singing “Wag Ka Nang Umiyak.” This song is one of the new additions that the creative team has included for the rerun. The scene reveals the root problem of Lexie and Topper’s relationship.
Maronne Cruz sings a powerful rendition of Mariposa with the talented ensemble.
The entire cast sings the song Sugarfree frontman Ebe Dancel specifically wrote for the musical.
