John Cariani’s Almost, Maine, which was staged last July at the UP Cebu Performing Arts Hall by Cebu-based theater company Little Boy Productions, returns this October—this time with Reb Atadero joining the cast. Atadero revisits the play, having first performed in it in Repertory Philippines’ 2016 staging.

Atadero’s connection with Little Boy Productions goes back to 2007, when he played the role of Zeke in High School Musical, a production the company co-produced with Ateneo blueREP. A little over two years later, he began teaching the first of three summer workshops for them in Cebu.

Now regarded as one of Philippine theater’s most popular leading men, Atadero—currently playing the role of Terry Connor in The Sandbox Collective’s Side Show—says Almost, Maine remains deeply personal. “Almost, Maine will always have a special place in my heart. To revisit it with Little Boy Productions is truly a gift,” he shares.

“The world has gotten more cynical since Almost, Maine was written,” adds Atadero. “At its heart is wonder—a miracle that happens when we open ourselves to something as powerful as love. That will always matter.”

First staged by Portland Stage Company (in Portland, Maine) in 2004, Almost, Maine is a romantic comedy set in a remote, fictional town on a winter night as the northern lights fill the sky. Told through a series of short vignettes, it captures the many sides of love—falling in, falling out, heartbreak, and hope—through whimsical, magical situations that highlight both the humor and poignancy of human connection.

Atadero will share the stage with some of his former students, as part of a Cebu ensemble that includes Tara Cabaero, Jolu Escano, John Sitchon, Nelson Judaya, Chloe Palang, Robert Palomo, Jean Mari Saraña, John Hanlon, Yesha Suralta, and Maxim Ilagan.

The show runs for one night only on October 4, 8 PM at the UP Cebu Performing Arts Hall. Tickets are priced at P1,200 (VIP Regular Orchestra Front), P800 (Category A Regular Orchestra Side), P600 (Category B Regular Orchestra Middle), P450 (Category C Regular Orchestra Back), and P250 (Category C Student Orchestra Back). They are available via Ticketmelon or through Galerie Raphael at (032) 401 1018.
