The reimagined production of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years is streaming again!

As part of the celebration of its first anniversary, Out of the Box Theatrics is presenting an encore engagement of its site-specific virtual production, which also streamed last year. The show will stream from March 28 to April 10.

Directed by Jason Michael Webb and starring Nasia Thomas as Cathy and Nicholas Edwards as Jamie, the production explores in-person boundaries and immersive theater for the screen as they tell the musical’s story set in an apartment in New York.

The Last Five Years is a musical written by Jason Robert Brown which premiered in Chicago in 2001 and then transferred Off-Broadway in 2002. The show chronicles the five-year relationship between two New Yorkers, Jamie Wellerstein, an up-and-coming novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress.

The story is told from each character’s perspective, with Cathy’s in reverse chronological order (starting with the end of their marriage) and Jamie’s in chronological order (starting from the moment they met). Throughout the show, the two characters do not interact directly except for a wedding song in the middle.

The Last Five Years was first staged in Manila in 2003 with Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo and Audie Gemora, and again in 2014 with Nikki Gil and Joaquin Pedro Valdes.
