Picking up where the 2023 lineup for its first season left off, the CCP National Theatre Live welcomes the new year with American playwright Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, screening on January 30, 2024, 6 PM, at the Ayala Malls Cinemas Greenbelt 3 Cinema 1.

Set in the Puritan New England town of Salem, Massachusetts, The Crucible tells a parable of power with historical accounts leading up to the infamous 1692 witch trials. This is the same story from which Tanghalang Pilipino’s Ang Pag-uusig was based from.

Directed by West End director Lyndsey Turner and designed by Tony Award-winner Es Devlin, this story is about a group of young women in Salem who are accused of practicing witchcraft. As a climate of fear, vendetta, and accusation spreads through the community, no one is safe from trial.

Based on true people and events, this drama about the Puritan purge of witchcraft in old Salem explores themes of history, community, herd mentality, and truth.

Actress Erin Doherty, best known for her portrayal of the young Princess Anne in the third and fourth seasons of Netflix’s drama series The Crown, stars alongside Australian actor, screenwriter and director Brendan Cowell, whose plays have been produced by theater companies in Australia and internationally, in this contemporary new staging.

First launched in June 2009, the National Theater Live is a groundbreaking project to broadcast the best of British theater live from the London stage to cinemas across the United Kingdom, around the world, and now in the Philippines.

Audiences can witness London National Theatre right in our local cinema through CCP National Theatre Live, featuring world-class stage plays all digitally filmed in high definition quality. NTL films their plays in front of live theater audiences, but optimized for the big screen and made accessible to theater fans across the globe.

“This 2024, we continue to bring new and exciting artistic and cultural experiences to all Filipino people from both local and international theater shows. Through the CCP NTL and other CCP programs, we hope to encourage art appreciation and participation through live theater,” said  CCP president Michelle Nikki Junia.

The regular ticket price for the screening is ₱250, with a special discounted price for students at ₱150. A Senior Citizen Discount for non-Makati residents & PWD will be given, while all senior citizens with Makati resident IDs shall be allowed free entry as mandated by local government regulations.
