‘Nagkatuwaan Sa Tahanang Ito’ Guelan Luarca Translation to be Staged this December
Kendra has the perfect family. She’s made sure of it. But when her brother Ben proves uncontrollable, she’s forced to confront her idea of family and how we choose to show up for one another.
Mad Child Productions closes its inaugural season and rings in the holidays with its most ambitious production yet: a full staging of Nagkatuwaan Sa Tahanang Ito, a newly translated play by Guelan Varela-Luarca based on This House Is For Laughing by Sam Walsh. Varela-Luarca, who was recently inducted into the Palanca Hall of Fame after winning three Palanca Awards this year (bringing his total to seven), also directs the production.
The play aims to take a witty yet heartfelt look at the pressures people put on themselves and each other to maintain appearances in pursuit of happiness and stability. What does it take to have meaningful relationships? What do you do when you have so much love to give and don’t know where to put it?
The cast features SPIT Manila’s Thea Marabut as Kendra, musical theater actor Joshua Cabiladas as Ben, theater veteran Peewee O’Hara as Alice, and film and television actor Soliman Cruz as Bob.
Joining Varela-Luarca and Walsh on the artistic team are Paul Martinez (costume designer), Jethro Nibaten (lighting designer), Carlos Hombrebueno (sound designer), Janina Mendoza (movement designer), and Zoë de Ocampo (graphic designer).
Nagkatuwaan Sa Tahanang Ito will run at the Black Box Theater, Old Communications Building, Ateneo de Manila University, from December 9 to 15, 2024. Gala performances are scheduled at 8:00 PM on December 9, 11, 12, 13, and 15, with matinees at 5:00 PM on December 12, 13, and 15.
Tickets are priced at P1,000 each and can be purchased through the company’s Google Form. They will also soon be available via Ticket2Me.
