Seventy-five years ago, bombs rained all over Manila.

Mula sa Buwan is a new Filipino musical about love, ideals, and the heartbreaks in between.

About the Musical

Mula sa Buwan

Based on ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’, the play is now set in 1940s Manila, among young ROTC cadets and blushing colegialas. Mula Sa Buwan shows the innocence and beauty of our nation where music, harana, kundiman, wit, passion, and hope abound! However, when World War II strikes, virtue, honor, and love are all tested – the young now forced to suddenly… grow up.

The story moves to a time after the war, to a field of ruble, of forgotten memories, of heroes lost in a country struggling to survive. At the center of it all, the unforgettable love story between Cyrano, Roxane and Christian.

In 2011, it was adapted by Pat Valera & William Manzano transforming the timeless piece into a Filipino musical. The preview shows were well-received both by the audience and critics. Truly, it captivated the hearts of the public.

Since then, the duo has patiently reworked the material to make it more moving and relevant. This year, December 2016, a full, grand, and elaborate production will grace the stage – once more bringing laughter, tears and remembrance to a broader market.

About Cyrano de Bergerac

Mula sa Buwan

Nicco Manalo as Cyrano

CYRANO DE BERGERAC is a well-loved popular play. It has been staged numerous times abroad, adapted into film, and is a main reference for themes of unrequited love:

Soldier and poet Cyrano de Bergerac is in love with Roxane, but he’s too ashamed to admit it because of his big nose. When a cadet, Christian, falls for Roxane, he asks for Cyrano’s help in sharing his feelings. Cyrano writes love letters signed with Christian’s name, and Roxane doesn’t realize that it’s Cyrano’s words she falls for. She marries Christian, and Cyrano continues to keep the other man’s secret, even after tragedy strikes.

Our Unsung Heroes

THE PLAY IS INSPIRED BY ACTUAL PEOPLE WHO FOUGHT FOR US

Through meticulous research, MULA SA BUWAN pairs itself with history. In particular, the play is inspired by the ROTC HUNTERS: a young group of college students who decided to become guerillas and fight for our freedom.
