Mga Dulang Bittersweet by Eljay Castro Deldoc Coming to Biñan this December
The Biñan Youth Performance Council (YPC), the official theater group of the City of Biñan, celebrates its 20th year with the eleventh installment of its long-running Telon series. Titled Mga Kwentong Buhay sa Harap ng Telon XI: Mapanakit – Mga Dulang Bittersweet, the production will run from December 4 to 14 at the Sentrong Pangkultura ng Biñan, Plaza Rizal.
This year’s Telon offering gathers three one-act plays written by Palanca Award–winning playwright Eljay Castro Deldoc. Each piece—different in tone and texture—examines the many faces of love, loss, longing, sacrifice, and healing.
Leading the lineup is Ang Liknayan ng Ating Mga Katawan, a 2023 Palanca-winning work making its world premiere. The play explores how our bodies become vessels of memory and trauma, revealing the quiet stories we carry within. Another premiere, Ilihan at Kalingaw: Ang Lihim na Istorya ng mga Buringkantada, delves into memory, myth, and the unspoken truths behind a Bicolano legend. Completing the trio is Ganito Ang Pangarap Kong Kasal, a play about vows, expectations, and the spaces between what we promise and what we become.
All three plays are directed by BJ Borja and performed by a new generation of YPC artists, including Jury Sanchez, Sydney Almarinez, Rinoa Caracas, Jobert Colopano, Schatz Laforteza, Danica Samson, Iverson Ochoa, Jenver Mallete, Addie Lacandazo, Rozel Aniceta, RL Javier, Marlou Navia, Kent Torres, Sheena Gonzales, Loudette Barias, Euden Moje, and Rijs Noguera.
The creative team includes Eljay Castro Deldoc (playwright), BJ Borja (director), Joy Orzo, Wilfredo Alipala, and Oneal Sanchez (assistant directors), and John Paul De Paz (production designer).
Mga Kwentong Buhay sa Harap ng Telon XI: Mapanakit – Mga Dulang Bittersweet runs on December 4–5 and 11–12 at 7 p.m., and on December 6–8 and 13–14 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., at the Sentrong Pangkultura ng Biñan, Plaza Rizal, City of Biñan. Admission is free.
