Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo to Star in ‘Kimberly Akimbo’ for Singapore’s Pangdemonium
Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo is set to play the lead role of Kimberly Levaco in the Broadway musical Kimberly Akimbo for Singaporean theater company Pangdemonium. Directed by Tracie Pang, the production will run from October 17 to November 2, 2025, in Singapore.
In a Facebook post, Lauchengco-Yulo expressed her excitement: “Proud to finally be able to announce this. I’ll be playing the role of Kimberly Levaco in 2025 with Pangdemonium Singapore.”
Kimberly Akimbo, written by David Lindsay-Abaire with music by Jeanine Tesori, tells the story of Kimberly, a 16-year-old girl whose rare genetic condition causes her to age at an accelerated pace, making her look 60. Despite her unconventional appearance and challenges with dysfunctional family dynamics, school troubles, and eccentric relatives, Kimberly embarks on a journey of self-discovery, friendship, and making the most of life.
In a recent Instagram reel released by the company, Lauchengco-Yulo shared, “The play is very relevant because it teaches you how to honor your differences and carve out your place in the world. It shows you that no matter how you are born or how you are made to feel, we all share the same humanity and deserve to live a happy and fulfilling life.”
The show ran on Broadway from 2022 to 2024, where it was nominated for eight Tony Awards and won five, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical for David Lindsay-Abaire, Best Original Score by Jeanine Tesori and Lindsay-Abaire, and Best Actress in a Musical for Victoria Clark.
Kimberly Akimbo will serve as the season finale in the company’s 2025 lineup, preceded by A Doll’s House, Part 2 in March and Singapore, Michigan in July. Tickets are available via their official site: tickets.pangdemonium.com.
Pangdemonium was founded in 2010 by Adrian and Tracie Pang.
