Kids Acts Philippines (KAPI) is opening its 19th season with Maria Makiling, a Philippine mythological tale adapted from the story of Dr. Jose Rizal. The show opens on October 8 and is set to run until April 2025 at St. Cecilia’s Hall, St. Scholastica’s College, Manila.

This musical adaptation is written by Luigi Nacario (book and lyrics), who also serves as choreographer and costume designer, and Eugene Belbis (music and orchestrations). It is directed by Meldrig Costuna, who also serves as co-choreographer.

KAPI’s stage version of the beautiful young maiden of Mount Makiling follows the love story of Maria and the fine-looking farmer Juan, who lived at the foot of Mount Makiling. The people in the story discover how maiden Maria came to Mount Makiling as a fairy, lived as a human, disappeared, returned, and eventually stayed as the spirit guardian of Mount Makiling while lying down on the summit of the mountain.

The cast features Hya Leonado, Kris Robles, and Mirriam Reyes as Maria Makiling, Jared Balling as Juan, Zeus Bunyi and Allen Orolfo as Bathala, Michelle Castro as Nanay Pasing, Emai Bansil and Elinor Acorda as Dalisay, Jerome Ferguson and Roel Robles as Tenyente, Anica Encenares as Little Maria, Shanaine Lopez and Chelsea Sangco as Dancing Maria, and Miguel Tan as Child. Understudies for Nanay Pasing are Angelica Venus and Ji Corpus. Ensemble: JJ Nagase and Risah Salazar.

Also on the artistic team are Joven Estremera (poster and set design) and Jontue Rosetes (lighting design).

Tickets are P1,000, free seating. Interested parties can buy tickets at the venue before the show. For further inquiries and reservations, call 0945-3504242.
