‘Man of La Mancha’ by Repertory Philippines Full Cast Announced
As previously reported, Repertory Philippines will stage Man of La Mancha as its second production for 2026, running from June 5 to 28. It will be the company’s third staging of the show since its founding.
The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical unfolds in a grim Spanish dungeon, where author Miguel de Cervantes must defend himself by telling an imaginative tale. He transforms into Don Quixote, a self‑proclaimed knight determined to see the world not as it is but as it ought to be.
The show is directed by Nelsito Gomez, with a book by Dale Wasserman, and music and lyrics by Mitch Leigh and Joe Darion.
On why he thinks it’s important to bring back this story today, a musical that first opened on Broadway in 1965, Gomez says, “I think we just need to scroll through FB or IG to see why a story like Man Of La Mancha needs to be told. I believe we need heroes like Don Quixote to remind us to ‘Fight for the right, without question or pause’, and that ‘Virtue shall triumph at last.’ We need to be reminded to dream again. Dream for a better tomorrow.”
When asked how it would be different from previous stagings of the show, he shares, “The goal is not to be different from the previous (and great) productions that REP has staged, as well as several others staged in the country, but to look at this story through the lens of today. And it makes us question, ‘Who needs to hear the message of Don Quixote the most?’ That will inform how we approach the show.”
The cast features Nonie Buencamino as Miguel Cervantes/Don Quixote, Katrine Sunga as Aldonza, Marvin Ong as Sancho Panza, Tarek El Tayech as Governor/Innkeeper, Alfredo Reyes as Duke/Carrasco, Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante as Antonia, Sarah Facuri as Housekeeper, Steven Hotchkiss as Padre, Julio Laforteza as Pedro/Male Dancer, Dippy Arceo as Jose, Jasper Jimenez as Juan/Barber, Ralph Oliva as Paco, Khalil Tambio as Anselmo, Liway Perez as Maria/Female Dancer, and Rafa Sumilong as Captain.
Individual tickets are not yet available for sale. Man of La Mancha is a featured production of the REP 89th Season Pass; season-pass holders enjoy priority seating and exclusive benefits for the entire lineup. Season passes can be purchased via the company’s Google Form.
