9 Works Theatrical is set to stage its new original musical, Liwanag Sa Dilim, featuring the songs of Rico Blanco, this March at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza.

The story follows Elesi, an orphan on a quest to uncover the secrets of his past. Together with Cris, his trusted ally, they fight for justice—while an undeniable connection sparks between them and the people who challenge their hearts. This ignites a revolution that redefines their worlds.

Not much else has been revealed about the plot, but writer (book) and director Robbie Guevara shares that the musical will feature 23 of Rico Blanco’s songs, specifically from his time with Rivermaya.

Managing director and executive producer Santi Santamaria also shares that they are co-producing a cast album with VIVA, which may be released before or after the show’s official opening.

The cast is headlined by Khalil Ramos and Anthony Rosaldo, who will be alternating in the role of Elesi; Vien King and CJ Navato, who will be alternating in the role of Cris; and Alexa Ilacad and Nicole Omillo, who will also be alternating in a yet-to-be-revealed role.

Joining them are Rita Daniela and Neomi Gonzales, who will be alternating in the role of Nanay, along with Arnel Carrion, Boo Gabunada, Jon Abella, Raul Montesa, Rica Laguardia, Lani Ligot, and Jasper John Jimenez.

The male performing swings are Paji Arceo and Mark Tayag, while the female performing swings are Chez Cuenca and Fay Castro.

Rounding up the cast are Iya Villanueva, Derrick Gozos, Brianna Bunagan, Lucylle Tan, Denzel Chang, Elian Santos, Giani Sarita, Prince España, and Clave Sun.

Liwanag Sa Dilim’s story is by Robbie Guevara, Jonjon Martin (who also serves as dramaturg), and Mio Infante (who also serves as scenographer), and the musical arrangements and orchestration are by Orlando Dela Cruz.
