‘Laman Loob’ Horror Twin Bill Staged Readings Set for October
Mad Child Productions returns this Halloween season with two new plays in the horror genre, presented as a twin bill of staged readings.
Billed as Laman Loob: Dalawang Dulang Katatakutan, the program features Talistis by Rafael Jimenez and Taong Seda by Iago Guballa (Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature 2024, The Echoist).
The production aims to highlight the sonar aspects of theater, focusing on an exciting combination of voice acting, live scoring, and foley to create an immersive auditory experience for audiences.
In Talistis, two low-ranking policemen come across the corpse of a child on the PNR tracks in Pandacan. When one of them seizes the opportunity to investigate the murder in hopes of a promotion, they become entangled in the underbelly of Metro Manila. The piece is directed by Monty Uy with sound direction by Alyssa Clare, and features actors Vino Mabalot and Adriane Ungriano.

Meanwhile, in Taong Seda, an introverted young woman and her eccentric grandfather work as tailors, living semi-secluded from their community. When a former classmate comes to them to have her wedding dress made, her presence reopens old wounds that the young woman can no longer stitch shut, leading her to seek damages for both her and her grandfather’s lot in life. The play is directed by Zoë de Ocampo with sound direction by Uriel Tibayan, and features actors Don Melvin Boongaling and Senanda.
Laman Loob: Dalawang Dulang Katatakutan will run for a limited engagement at Campos Room, 3F Bridgeway, Areté, Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City, on October 11 (5:00 PM and 8:00 PM) and October 12 (5:00 PM).
