Tanghalang Pilipino is set to stage a theatrical adaptation of Kisapmata this March at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez.

Adapted from the film by Mike de Leon of the same name, which is based on National Artist Nick Joaquin’s crime report titled The House on Zapote Street, the play serves as the company’s finale for its 38th season, following Balete and Sandosenang Sapatos.

The story follows a retired policeman, his wife, and his daughter, living inside a house on Zapote Street—a haven of domestic bliss, a home of love and order, and a portrait of the perfect Filipino family. But one day, the daughter falls in love with a man. Suddenly, the home is under threat. The world is not safe. The Filipino family must be defended, at all costs. Tatay knows best. Trust in Tatay. Trust no one else.

The cast features senior members of the Actors Company: Jonathan Tadioan as Dadong, Lhorvie Nuevo-Tadioan as Dely, Toni Go-Yadao as Mila, and Marco Viaña as Noel. Understudies for the roles include Arjay Babon (Dadong), Sofia Sacaguing (Dely), Sarah Monay (Mila), and Mark Lorenz (Noel).

Kisapmata invites audiences to witness the unraveling of a “perfect” Filipino family on stage as the tension and drama of love and fear collide within the confines of a seemingly idyllic household.

The play is adapted and directed by Guelan Varela-Luarca with the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company, with assistant direction by Rafael Jimenez and Kat Batara, movement direction by JM Cabling, set design by Joey Mendoza, costume design by Bonsai Cielo, music and sound design Arvy Dimaculangan, lighting design and technical direction D Cortezano, and intimacy direction by Missy Maramara.

Kisapmata will run from March 7 to 30, 2025, Fridays to Sundays, at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez. Tickets are available through Ticket2Me.

*The play is R-16. Only viewers aged 16 years and above will be admitted. An “R-16” classification advises viewers, parents, and supervising adults that the play may contain elements unsuitable for children below 16 years of age, such as sex, horror, crime, cruelty, violence, offensive language, and self-harm.

You can find a first look at the show in the video below, taken during the company’s 38th season launch last August.
