Newport World Resorts has announced Kailangan Kita: An Ogie Alcasid Musical, a new original Filipino musical featuring the songs of singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid, opening in May 2027 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
Staged with PETA Plus, the production is directed by Ian Segarra and Johnnie Moran. The concept is by Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, with the book written by Eljay Castro Deldoc.
The musical was unveiled during the closing show of Bongga Ka, ’Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical on October 31, 2026 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. The announcement included a teaser performance featuring a medley of Alcasid’s songs Kailangan Kita, Hanggang Ngayon, and Dito sa Puso Ko, performed by Ethan David, Sheena Belarmino, Poppert Bernadas, Tep Logmao, Mark Gil, Rapah Manalo, Stephen Viñas, Yna Arbiol, Beng Turiano, Jannah Baniasia, and Iya Villanueva.
You can find the teaser performance below.
Alcasid also announced onstage that he and Velasquez-Alcasid will star in the musical.
Kailangan Kita follows Roger Kundirana, a once-popular singer-songwriter who has given up on music and wants his only daughter, Himig, to do the same. To him, a life in music means no money, no future, and a family left picking up the pieces. Then he meets Arlene, Himig’s music teacher, and something long buried in Roger begins to sing again. She becomes his new muse, awakening the possibility of creating and dreaming again.
All the while, they live with the uneasy possibility of The Big One, the massive earthquake the city has long been warned could come at any time. As Roger begins rebuilding a life he thought he had left behind, another arrival threatens to shake the fragile ground beneath him and Himig, forcing them to confront what they have been trying to protect and what they may ultimately have to let go.
Kailangan Kita: An Ogie Alcasid Musical is a production of Newport World Resorts, in association with ATeam PH, VIVA Communications, and The Philippine STAR. Further announcements on casting, ticketing, and other production details will follow.
