At tonight’s curtain call of The Sandbox Collective’s Little Shop of Horrors, the company announced that Iza Calzado is set to headline their staging of Tiny Beautiful Things, their season finale for 2024. This marks Calzado’s second foray into theater after starring in Sabel: Love and Passion with the dancers of the Philippine Ballet Theatre in 2015.

The bestselling book-turned-play-turned-TV show, was first published in 2012 by Cheryl Strayed. Based on her experiences as an anonymous advice columnist, the play is told in epistolary form, with a revolving door of Letter Writers appearing onstage and asking Sugar for advice on life. Featuring real letters from real people, Tiny Beautiful Things highlights the common threads between our experience as humans.

The production is directed by Jenny Jamora. Joining Jenny are Marcel David as Assistant Director, Charyl De Guzman as Production Manager, Pachot Festejo as Head Stage Manager, Kiefer Sison as Lighting Designer/Technical Director, Kayla Teodoro as Set Designer, Krystal Kane as Costume Stylist, and Arvy Dimaculangan as Sound Designer/Musical Scoring.

Tiny Beautiful Things will run all weekends from November 16 to December 8, 2024 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Black Box Theater, Circuit Makati. The play is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. It is based on the book by Cheryl Strayed, adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos, and was co-conceived by Marshall Heyman, Thomas Kail, and Nia Vardalos.
