Gab Pangilinan Returns to ‘Samalamig Cold Readings’ this September
Samalamig Cold Readings returns for a second installment happening on September 17, 2025, 8 PM at Vault Speakeasy Bar Greenhills (inside Tittos Latin BBQ and Brew), featuring returning Guest Artist Gab Pangilinan.
Currently playing Paula Marasigan in Areté Ateneo’s Quomodo Desolata Es? Isang Dalamhati, Pangilinan returns as the featured Guest Artist who will be reading selected plays alongside audience volunteers during the event.
Submissions are open until August 13 at 11:59 p.m. Interested playwrights can send their pieces to samalamigreadings@gmail.com with the subject line: [Submission] Title Name – Genre.
The scripts can be in English, Filipino, Taglish, or with a mix of any Philippine languages. Each piece must feature 3–4 characters and have a runtime of 10–15 minutes. Full mechanics can be found at: bit.ly/SamalamigColdReadings
Now in its second year, Samalamig Cold Readings features three fresh or work-in-progress (WIP) scripts from budding, aspiring, or professional writers—whether the work is meant for the stage or a visual medium. The show’s second act includes a short, one-act play by Carlos Palanca Memorial Award winners such as Eljay Castro Deldoc, Dustin Celestino, and Hall of Famer Guelan Luarca.
In the first 2025 Samalamig session held last May, the featured pieces were Apat na Kaluluwa by Bea Nicole Abelinde, Maaga Pa Tayo Bukas by Rossielle Manicad, and Untop by Daniel Agusto, while the featured 2nd Act play was Nihil Timemdum Est by Eljay Castro Deldoc.
Tickets are priced at P800 for Early Bird (until September 16) or P1,000 for Regular/Walk-in, inclusive of one complimentary drink. Visit bit.ly/SamalamigColdReadings to purchase tickets.
Samalamig Cold Readings is a new theater space conceptualized by Gelo Esperanzate and Carl Cuevas of PopQuizPH, where aspiring and budding playwrights can submit fresh, WIP, or never-before-performed scripts to be cold-read by audience volunteers alongside the season’s guest artist. Each reading is followed by a brief talkback session.
