‘Funny Girl’ Cast Album with Lea Michele Now on Spotify
The Broadway revival of Funny Girl, which opened last April 24, 2022 at the August Wilson Theatre, has just released its cast album on Spotify, but in a rare move, features replacement stars as opposed to its completely original revival cast.
Instead of featuring Beanie Feldstein and Jane Lynch, who originally played Fanny Brice and Mrs. Brice for the revival run, the cast album features current replacement stars Lea Michele and Tovah Feldshuh.
They are joined by Ramin Karimloo, Jared Grimes, Peter Francis James, Ephie Aardema, Debra Cardona, Toni DiBuono, Martin Moran, Miriam Ali, Amber Ardolino, Daniel Beeman, Colin Bradbury, Kurt Csolak, John Michael Fiumara, Leslie Donna Flesner, Afra Hines, Masumi Iwai, Aliah James, Jeremiah James, Danielle Kelsey, Stephen Mark Lukas, Alicia Lundgren, John Manzari, Liz McCartney, Connor McRory Katie Mitchell, Justin Prescott, Mariah Reives, Barbara Tirrell, and Leslie Blake Walker.
Directed by Michael Mayer, Funny Girl features a score by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill and a revised book by Harvey Fierstein based on the original by Isobel Lennart, with tap choreography by Ayodele Casel and choreography by Ellenore Scott.
With songs like “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “I’m the Greatest Star,” and “People,” this bittersweet comedy follows the story of Fanny Brice, a girl from the Lower East Side who dreamed of a life on the stage. Everyone told her she’d never be a star, but then something funny happened—she became one of the most beloved performers in history, shining brighter than the brightest lights of Broadway.
The original Broadway production opened in 1964 with Barbra Streisand as Fanny Brice. She then reprised her role for the 1968 film adaptation, where she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
