‘Constellations’ to Star Missy Maramara, Topper Fabregas, Jenny Jamora This November
Nick Payne’s Constellations returns to the Philippine stage this November in a new production by Stages Production Specialists, Inc., co-presented by MusicArtes, Inc., and directed by Italian-American Fulbright Specialist Kiara Pipino.
Originally written for two performers, Constellations follows Marianne, a quantum physicist, and Roland, a beekeeper, who meet at a barbecue. Their relationship is repeatedly tested across parallel universes, with different choices and circumstances leading to different versions of their lives together. The play explores love and relationships through questions of chance, choice, time, illness, and mortality.
For this staging, the two characters will be portrayed by three actors: Missy Maramara, Jenny Jamora, and Topper Fabregas. All three performers will embody both Marianne and Roland, with the characters shifting between bodies as the play moves through different realities. No actor is permanently assigned to either character.
Pipino is an Associate Professor of Theatre at SUNY Oneonta and a U.S. Fulbright Specialist Scholar who came to the Philippines through the program in 2024. Her directing work spans classical and contemporary theater, with work staged in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia, including productions with Prague Shakespeare Company and Teatro Nazionale di Genova. In 2024, she directed Maramara in The Half Life of Marie Curie at the Doreen Black Box Theater in Areté. The two-hander starred Maramara as physicist and chemist Marie Curie opposite Caisa Borromeo as British engineer and suffragist Hertha Ayrton, chronicling the friendship between the two women.
The play was previously staged in Manila by Red Turnip Theater in 2016, starring JC Santos and Cris Villonco.
Constellations will run Fridays to Sundays from November 13 to 22 at The Mirror Studio Theater, 3/F SJG Building, 8463 Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City, with Friday performances at 7 PM and Saturday and Sunday performances at 3 PM and 7 PM.
Tickets are priced at ₱1,500 each and are available via the company’s Google Form.
