After Miss Saigon, two more filmed stage musicals are coming to US Cinemas!
ALLEGIANCE
Allegiance, which officially ran from November 8, 2015 to February 14, 2016 on Broadway, is inspired by the true-life experience of leading man George Takei and his family’s struggles in the Japanese American internment of World War II.
The musical starring George Takei, Telly Leung, and Tony-Award winner Lea Salonga is coming to US cinemas for one-day-only this December 13!
NEWSIES
During our Skype interview with Newsie original Broadway cast member Andrew Keegan-Bolger just a few weeks ago, Bolger mentioned that they had just finished doing the film.
“I just finished shooting the film version of Newsies which is gonna be coming out in theaters in February I think worldwide. Hopefully they’ll be in the theaters in the Philippines as well. So that’s what I did last month.”
And just a few days ago, Broadway.com announced that the filmed version will indeed be coming out in US cinemas this February 16, 18 and 22. The movie was shot on September 11 during a special performance of the show’s LA national tour. Fellow original Broadway cast members Jeremy Jordan, Kara Lindsay, Ben Fankhauser join Bolger in the much-anticipated cinematic event.
The Broadway musical, which won Best Choreography and Best Original Score in the 2012 Tony Awards, is based on the 1992 Disney film about the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City.
Fingers crossed that they’ll be shown here too!
While we wait, we can see Andrew Keegan-Bolger in his upcoming one-night-only concert entitled “A Very Broadway Christmas in Manila” with Filipino theater veteran Tanya Manalang this December 11 at the new Globe Auditorium.
