At the final matinee performance of Bagets: The Musical, Newport World Resorts announced that Bongga ka Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical will be its next major production, set to premiere in September 2026.

The reveal was accompanied by live performances of Hotdog’s “Bongga Ka Day” and “Annie Batungbakal,” offering audiences a preview of the musical’s sound and spirit.

Originally slated to open at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in June 2020 and previously titled Bongga ka Day, the show was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the earlier production’s synopsis, the musical—featuring the songs of iconic ‘70s OPM band Hotdog—chronicles the life, loves, and dreams of Annie Batungbakal, a dispatsadora (saleslady), who fights her way to the life she has always dreamed of and the social circle she has long sought to be part of.

The 2020 staging was set to feature Gab Pangilinan, Anna Luna, and Nicole Omillo alternating in the title role, alongside Markki Stroem as Romer, CJ Navato as Burn, Jon Santos as Aurora Borlaez, and Lemuel Silvestre as Toots.

It has yet to be announced whether any of the previously attached cast members will return for the 2026 production. The original creative team—Liza Magtoto (book), Maribel Legarda (director), and Myke Salomon (musical director)—was also announced in 2020, though their involvement in the upcoming run remains unconfirmed.

Further details about the production are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
